Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya meets with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Security, Democracy and Human Rights Affairs

 

During his meeting in his office today, Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya, with US Assistant Secretary of State for Security, Democracy and Human Rights Affairs Ozra Zia and the accompanying delegation, discussed the situation in the region and aspects of cooperation between the Kingdom and the United States and ways to support and develop them.

Al-Faraiah stressed Jordan’s firm position on the necessity of immediately stopping the aggression against Gaza, removing all obstacles to the entry of adequate aid into all parts of the Strip, and joining all efforts to prevent regional escalation, preserving the remaining opportunities for peace, and working to protect the region from the devastating effects of this war on all sides. Stepping up, and returning to a serious political path that ends the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and in a way that guarantees security and peace for the countries of the region.

Al-Faraiah stressed that the Ministry continues to maintain security and community peace, and to enable citizens to express their opinions through peaceful assembly, which is one of the basic rights enshrined in the Constitution, within the limits of the law, in order to ensure the security of citizens and their property.

On a related level, Al-Faraiah praised the efforts made by the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army and the security services on the northern border in dealing with drug and smuggling issues and standing as an impenetrable barrier against smuggling gangs to prevent their entry into the Kingdom, and from there to neighboring countries, especially the Arab Gulf countries, stressing that there is cooperation. Regionally in the region to deal with drug smuggling issues.

Al-Faraiah pointed to the economic difficulties that the Kingdom is suffering from as a result of events in the region, regional instability, the worsening refugee crisis, the decline in support provided to them by the international community, the weak resettlement movement of Syrian refugees, and the small number of voluntary returnees. He also pointed out the need for border posts to restore their infrastructure and modernize their equipment to prevent smuggling. Drugs and dangerous substances.

For her part, Ozra Zia appreciated the Kingdom’s efforts and its effective role in promoting stability and working to build peace in the region in light of the current conditions and the nature of the threats it faces. She also stressed that strengthening security cooperation, maintaining regional stability, and sustaining humanitarian efforts are among the priorities of concern.
