Launching (25) e-services and (6) digital services out of (58) services provided by the Department to date.

The percentage of e-transactions compared to the total number of transactions increased from (4.63%) during the first five months of this year to (23%) during the last three months.

Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya and Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Eng. Sami Smeirat launched the pilot phase of the e-Passport service today at the Civil Status and Passports Department. The launch was attended by the Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department Eng. Ghaith Al-Tayeb.

Minister Faraya praised the joint efforts between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Civil Status and Passports Department, as well as the support of the relevant security agencies, which culminated in the launch of the e-Passport service.

Al-Faraya considered that the launch of the first pilot phase of the e-passport today, followed by the provision of this pilot service to citizens starting September 1, 2025, represents a qualitative leap in the level of services provided by the Civil Status and Passports Department and a transition to an advanced generation of passports held by Jordanians.

In this context, Al-Faraya pointed to the set of high-quality specifications, precise security features, and civilized appearances that characterize the e-passport, in addition to its advanced digital features, which enable it to be read easily and accurately by various international border-reading systems. This increases the passport's reliability globally, thereby facilitating the travel of Jordanian citizens between different countries.

Minister Al-Faraya also explained that the launch and expansion of the Civil Status and Passports Department's services electronically, through multiple digital channels, will facilitate access to these services for citizens and reduce the burden on Civil Status Directorates and their offices, thus increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided.

Meanwhile, Al-Faraya confirmed that in the next phase, the Civil Status and Passports Department will continue to launch new e-services, in accordance with a plan aimed at a complete digital transition in service provision.

For his part, the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Engineer Sami Smeirat, emphasized that the launch of the e-passport represents an advanced step towards providing modern and secure services that keep pace with the latest international standards and ensure the highest levels of protection for citizens' personal and vital data. He explained that this achievement aligns with the directives of the National Council for Future Technology, reflecting the Kingdom's ability to adopt the latest technological solutions and support its international competitiveness.

Smeirat explained that the Ministry has activated the public key infrastructure system and issued the Kingdom's issuing authority's certification certificate. This certificate was submitted to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and distributed to participating countries in the Public Key Directory. This will contribute to expediting procedures and facilitating travel for citizens.

Smeirat also emphasized the Ministry's commitment to providing quality digital services to citizens, reflecting Jordan's ambition to lead the digital transformation in the region.

For his part, the Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Engineer Ghaith Al-Tayeb, emphasized that the e-passport represents a major step in enhancing the digital transformation of government services. He explained that the e-passport includes a smart electronic chip containing the holder's personal and biometric data, which is read electronically by specialized devices at airports and international ports. Additionally, the profile page is made of highly durable, damage-resistant polycarbonate, enabling precise laser printing. It also contains invisible security features that enhance the passport's protection against forgery or tampering.

He added that every citizen has the right to apply for an e-passport, whether for the first time, for renewal, or in cases of loss or damage, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant law, regulations, and instructions, effective September 1, 2025. The e-passport is valid for five years, as stipulated in the current Passport Law, and he emphasized that there will be no financial increase in the e-passport issuance fees.

Al-Tayeb emphasized that the traditional (paper) passport currently in use remains valid for travel procedures and will remain an available option for citizens until new regulations are issued. This means that citizens have the option to issue or renew a traditional (paper) passport or an e-passport, starting from the aforementioned date.

It should be noted that the e-passport will be issued through the Civil Status and Passports Department's e-services portal and the Sanad app. Any citizen with an activated digital ID can access the services menu, select the Civil Status and Passports Department, then the e-passport service. The passport will be delivered through the Jordan Post Company, with a delivery fee of only three dinars to the specified address. The delivery mechanism will be monitored to ensure that documents reach citizens efficiently and quickly.

It is added that the Civil Status and Passports Department has so far launched (25) electronic services and (6) digital services out of (58) services provided by the department, and the percentage of electronic transactions compared to the total number of transactions increased from (4.63%) during the first five months of the current year to (23%) during the last three months.
