Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya inspects Jaber Border Post and confirms ongoing infrastructure development.
The Minister of Interior inspected the Jaber Border Post on Tuesday to monitor the progress of work and review the procedures and services provided to travelers.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior is working according to a comprehensive vision to develop all border posts. He emphasized that the Jaber Border Post is witnessing active activity on multiple levels, which requires redoubled efforts to provide a safe and smooth environment for travelers and ensure the provision of the best services according to the highest standards.
During his meeting with the staff working at the post, the Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Interior pays special attention to border posts and crossings. He emphasized that the Jaber Border Post is currently undergoing comprehensive expansion, including the construction of new, fully equipped halls to serve arrivals and departures, as part of a plan to rehabilitate the infrastructure and improve the level of services provided.
He explained that this expansion comes in response to the significant increase in the number of travelers through the center. The Jaber Border Crossing is the third busiest border crossing for passenger traffic after Queen Alia International Airport and the Omari Border Crossing. He indicated that the number of travelers through the center during the first five months of this year was double the number of travelers through the center during the same period last year.
He added that the center is currently operating around the clock for both passenger and cargo traffic, an unprecedented step that reflects improved performance and enhanced services.
Regarding the return of Syrian refugees, the Minister of Interior noted that approximately 80,000 Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned to their country through the center recently, an indication of improved security conditions and increased coordination between the Jordanian and Syrian sides.
Regarding cargo traffic, the Minister explained that the center is witnessing increased activity. On one of the days preceding Eid al-Adha, approximately 3,200 trucks passed in both directions, the highest number recorded by the center in a single day.
Al-Faraya pointed out the existence of some challenges related to the withdrawal procedures from the Syrian side, stressing the tangible efforts of our brothers in the Syrian Arab Republic to address them, and that coordination between the two sides is ongoing through official channels.
He explained that communication with the Syrian Minister of Interior is ongoing, as part of joint efforts to enhance cooperation and remove obstacles to the movement of people and goods, serving the common interests of the two brotherly countries.
It is worth noting that the Jaber Border Crossing is a strategic crossing point linking the Kingdom with the Syrian Arab Republic and plays an important role in the movement of trade and transit between the countries of the region.
