Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya, during an inspection tour today at the Port of Aqaba, praised the qualitative leap in the security and public safety system.
Al-Faraya emphasized that the Port of Aqaba is witnessing a qualitative leap in the security, public safety, and transportation system following the establishment of the Joint Control and Coordination Center.
During his visit on Friday to the Aqaba Company for Ports Management and Operations, accompanied by Aqaba Governor Khaled Al-Hajjaj and in the presence of Aqaba Company for Ports Management and Operations Director General Dr. Mahmoud Khalifat, Al-Faraya added that "the ports have moved from traditional operations to international standards through sound planning and networking between the handling authorities and factories operating in the southern region, along with security and oversight agencies."
Al-Faraya indicated that public safety in the southern region is a top priority, noting that the achievements of public safety plans on the ground at the port have reached 88% to date, compared to before the chlorine tank collapse in 2022. Little remains related to infrastructure, which does not affect workflow and public safety.
Al-Faraya emphasized that the Joint Control and Coordination Center monitors all factories, companies, and public institutions in the southern region, a major national achievement that contributes to the transfer of expertise between factories and the submission of performance and monitoring reports to all relevant parties.
For his part, Dr. Khalifat said that the port administration has given the public safety sector a top priority, especially with regard to workers, port partners, and public property.
He pointed out that safety injuries and accidents General and occupational health decreased significantly by 88% compared to 2023, while handling at port quays increased by 13%.
Khalifat added that occupational health and safety are a fundamental pillar in achieving the Ports Authority's goals of creating a safe work environment. This reflects the company's ongoing commitment to implementing best practices and safety procedures, and its constant concern for the protection of its staff and operational facilities. Khalifat said that the Port of Aqaba is highly prepared and operating at full capacity, according to a previously prepared and well-thought-out work plan that takes into account all circumstances and factors.
Regarding the Eid al-Adha holiday, Khalaifat explained that the port operates around the clock, as long as there are ships and handling operations within a program that ensures smooth and seamless workflow.
The Minister of Interior, accompanied by Aqaba Governor Khaled Al-Hajjaj, toured the port's quays and listened to a detailed explanation of the quays, the nature of their work, and their conditions.
