The Minister of Interior meets the head of delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross in the Kingdom.

Minister of Interior, Salama Hammad, discussed today, Wednesday, with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegationin the kingdom, Jorge Montani, and the accompanying delegation, Prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two sides, the progress of joint programs and activities, and ways to assist the ICRC in carrying out its humanitarian missions.

The Minister of the Interior said that Jordan has a deep and historical experience with the Red Cross, which we respect its humanitarian role and its relief missions, especially after the challenges that we face and resulting from some of the current events in the region have increased.  Jordan also has received large flows of asylum from several nationalities and the consequences of these flowsin various service and security areas in the kingdom.

The minister said that Jordan is a secure and stable country, firstly with God`s help, and because of its wise Hashemite leadership, its loyal people, and its military and security apparatus, which works round-the-clock to preserve its security and stability. Jordan has never closed its doors in the face of those who seek security and safety, despite its small size, poor resources, and lack of capabilities.

Hammad reaffirmed the negative consequences of the refugee crises that the kingdom is effected to, especially Syrian refugees, in various fields, and the need for the international community and international donor organizations to focus on supporting Jordan, which has taken a lot of suffering beyond its capabilities due to the crisis.

The Minister of the Interior affirmed the Ministry's readiness with all security personnel to cooperate with the committee in implementing its various tasks and overcoming any difficulties that it might encounter.

On his part, Montani praised the volume of cooperation that shown by all institutions and official bodies with the Committee and  the role of these institutions in consolidating respect for human rights and the application of the principles of international humanitarian law, as well as Jordan's role in bearing the burdens resulting from hosting large numbers of refugees.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue coordination and consultation on issues of concern to both sides.
