Tafelah Governorate

 

Tafelah Governorate is considered a special governorate for its geographical and climate diversity, and also the economic diversity. In Tafelah, there are several natural resources, such as cultivable lands, and mineral resources like phosphate, raw materials for cement, and copper. Mining sector is one of the main activities in the Governorate, where there are phosphate mines in Al-Hassa County, and cement factory in Al-Rashadeyeh, in Bsairah County. These activities are having great importance at the national level, as they largely contribute to the volume of exports.

Unemployment rate among its people is rising for their dependence on the available jobs in the public sector and the armed forces.

In addition to being famous for its vine orchids and thousands of year-old olive trees, there are several touristic spots in Tafelah, mainly Dana Reservation, Efrah Hot Spring and Burbaitah Hot Spring.

Geographical Location:

Tafelah Governorate is located in the southwestern part of the Kingdom; it is northern boundaries meet with Karak Governorate, Ma’an Governorate to the east and south, and Wadi Araba and the Dead Sea to the west. It is situated 183 km far from the Capital Amman. The Governorate’s area is 2,209 km2, which equals 2.5% of the total area of the Kingdom.

The Governorate consists of three counties: Al-Qasaba County (the seat of the major city), Al-Hassa County, and Bsairah County.

  • Population density: (43.6) inhabitants per square kilometer.

  • Being adjacent to the Desert Highway.

  • The existence of Tafela Technical University.

  • The potential of utilizing solar energy and strong wind.
